How to Plug an OBDII GPS Tracker into a Typical North American Vehicle
Step-by-Step Guide
- Locate the OBDII Port
- Under the Dashboard (Driver’s Side): The most common location is under the dashboard, near the steering column or pedals.
- Around the Center Console: Some vehicles have the port near the center console, under the radio, or in the armrest area.
- Side of the Dashboard: Occasionally, the port is located on the side of the dashboard, visible only when the driver’s door is open.
- Prepare the Vehicle
- Turn Off the Ignition: Ensure the car is off before plugging in the device for safety.
- Plug in the OBDII GPS Tracker
- Align and Insert: Align the connector of the OBDII GPS tracker with the port and insert it firmly.
- Turn the Ignition to “ON”: Turn the ignition to the “ON” position without starting the engine. This activates the car’s electrical system, allowing the device to communicate with the vehicle’s onboard computer.
- Allow the Device to register itself
- Device Initialization: The device will begin its initialization process by looking for GPS satellites and connecting to the cell network. This process may take up to 30 minutes.
